A cash receipt (or shopping ticket) is a receipt that every company must give to its customers whenever they make a purchase of a product or service. It can be a paper ticket, if it is a physical store, or an online ticket, if it is a virtual store.
In this way, customers have the guarantee that the shops or companies will respond to any doubt or incident. So it is important not only not to lose them or throw them away, but to keep them at least for a while.
And of course, first of all, the consumer must make sure that everything on the ticket is correct: the price, the number of items, etc. Otherwise, it can happen that the consumer is overcharged, or that the product or service is not listed correctly, and then he or she may have to make a claim.

Is it the same ticket as a simplified invoice?
In fact, since 2013, the till receipts are actually simplified invoices, although colloquially we still refer to them as tickets. You could say that they are invoice tickets.
Tickets are only given to private customers who make purchases of less than 400 euros or cash payments of less than 2,500 euros. Or when a previous invoice has already been made, and must be rectified.
In some cases, if it is considered that there are problems in issuing a “normal” invoice, the amount of payment can be increased to 3,000 euros and a cash receipt can also be issued. This case applies, depending on the sector of activity, where it is not possible to issue a “normal” invoice on a day-to-day basis.
We are referring to sectors such as passenger and luggage transport, hotel and restaurant services, retail sales, car parks, tolls..
When we speak of a “normal” invoice, we are referring to invoices that are made for companies and self-employed people, since with them VAT can be deducted (not with a cash receipt) and that include, in addition to the fiscal data of the issuer, the fiscal data of the receiver.

What should a purchase ticket contain?
If you have any tickets from any of the last purchases you have made, you can check the following data:
- Name or company name of the company selling the product or service.
- CIF/NIF of the company.
- List of goods or services provided.
- Applied tax rate. That is to say, the different VAT rates that correspond according to the type of product.
- Total amount of the purchase.
- Invoice number and correlative series.
- Date and time of the operation.
If these data are not included, the cash receipt will not be valid. Obviously, a reliable company, with everything in order, will always have it perfect. But it never hurts to check all the data, and it can be used to detect that everything is fine. Especially if the purchase is made in a little known place.
In the case of rectifying invoices, the reference of the cash receipt that has been rectified must also be included.

What is the purpose of the sales receipt?
First of all, and as we have already said, the cash receipt is a receipt. It justifies the fact that the customer has “gone through the checkout” and paid for something, and can therefore invoke the rights of consumers.
If you are a private individual, it serves as a guarantee (normally within a period of 2 years) that if the product purchased is defective, the company will take care of fixing it.
If it cannot be fixed, it will have to be replaced by the same product but in good condition, or the consumer may claim a refund of the product and the amount paid, as the expectations have not been met.
If, say, the customer has had a problem and none of these ways work, you can process a claim, provided that no more than 6 months have passed. Otherwise, he will have to prove that it was already defective when he bought it.
And of course, as we have said before, the cash receipt serves to check that there have been no errors in the amount of the purchase or that products or services are missing.
If you are a self-employed person or businessman, you must know how to post the purchase tickets or simplified invoices that are related to your professional activity, since they also serve to deduct you for the tax return. Both for the income and for the expenses of the company.
As far as this is concerned, you should keep them for at least 6 years, in case the tax authorities claim them. If they are paper receipts, due to the type of paper of the ticket, the data are erased with time, so it is advisable to digitalize them.
Conclusion
From the consumer’s point of view, purchase tickets are not just a piece of paper to be crumpled up and put in a wallet or a bag. They are also an insurance and guarantee that, in the event of any incident, it must be solved by the company that has made the sale. And, of course, the proof of payment of a wrongly charged amount.
From the point of view of the businessman who issues a cash receipt, there is an obligation to do it correctly, so it is important to have a software that generates them in a simple and fast way, that can be customized, that makes them compatible with all types of printers..
